The 2022 USA Cycling Madison Track National Championships concluded on Saturday evening, with multiple national titles awarded at the Lexus Velodrome in Detroit, Mich.
Master Men
The Master Men kicked off the weekend on Friday evening, vying for the Masters Men 35+ and Master Men 45+ national titles. With six strong teams lined up, spectators knew they were in for some exciting racing. The teams raced a combined event, and the titles were separated after the event's conclusion.
Team Yellow, made up of Dave Koesel (San Juan Bautista, Calif.) and Jeromy Cottell (Redwood City, Calif.), earned a total of 39 points and dominated the race, taking top points in three of the six sprints, becoming National Champions for Master Men 45+. Team Black, made up of Andrew Crater (San Diego, Calif.; Team Black) and Jon Hughes (San Diego, Calif.; Team Black), were crowned in the Master Men 35+ category.
Also on Friday, the event saw two record attempts – a Junior Men 9-10 500-meter time trial and a Junior Men 13-14 500 meter time trial. Cormac Leary (Detroit, Mich.) set that Junior Men 9-10 record with a 45.770, beating the previous record by three-tenths of a second. Cameron Coleman (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) was also successful, beating the old Junior Men 13-14 record by .628 seconds with his time of 34.690 seconds.
Junior Men & Women
Congratulations to Brendan Leary (Detroit, Mich.) and Ben Crimson (Louisville, Ky.) who took home the gold for Junior Men 15-18, as well as Cameron Coleman (Detroit, Mich.) and Kash Adamski (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.), who came in first in Junior Men 13-14.
The Junior Women's race was action-packed and full of strong teamwork. Reagan Pattishall (Breinigsville, Pa.) and Cyrena Hill earned the gold and a well-earned National Champion title with their incredible athleticism.
Elite Men
On Saturday, 13 teams started the day for the Elite Men, but because of the size of the track (166m), they had to run heats in the afternoon to determine the Finals.
Tristan Manderfeld (Colorado Springs, Colo.) successfully defended his title with a new partner, Colby Lange (Edwards, Colo.), in the Elite Men.
Elite Women
The Elite Women competed in Saturday's races on the track. Lined up were strong teams of riders with varying backgrounds in the sport.
After a dominating performance, Debbie Milne (Greenville, S.C.) and Nicole Borem-Schickel (Carmel, Ind.) took home the gold and National Champion title.
The event returns to the Lexus Velodrome next year!
