MTB Nats Kicks off In Winter Park

Six days of racing kicks off today at Trestle Bike Park in Winter Park, Colo. with the Non-Championship Dual Slalom and Downhill races. With over 1500 unique participants ranging from 6 years old through 87, this year’s Mountain Bike National Championship is the largest USA Cycling has seen.

The Pro races begin Thursday with Enduro and continue into Friday with the Dual Slalom seeding where defending Champions Jill Kitner and Luca Commetti will defend their titles. The races will continue through the weekend with Downhill, Cross-Country and Short Track races. With defending National and World Champion, Kate Courtney opting to forgo Nationals this year, there will be a new National Champion crowned in the Women’s race on Sunday. Favorites for the title as well as Sunday’s Short Track are Lea Davison and Chloe Woodruff. Defending Men’s Champion, Howard Grotts will be back to defend his title. Stand out contenders are Christopher Blevins, who won the Short Track last year, as well as Keegan Swenson and Luke Vrouwenvelder. In the Downhill category, the Women’s defending Champion Samantha Soriano will compete against the 2019 ProGRT Champion Caroline Washam as well as multiple-time National Jill Kitner, while Luca Cometti and Kiran MacKinnon are current favorites for the Men.
