On the third day of the UCI Road World Championships, the U.S. Elite Women secured three spots in the top 10 in the Individual Time Trial with Leah Thomas (Boulder Creek, Calif.; UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling), Amber Neben (Lake Forest, Calif.; PX4 Sports), and Tayler Wiles (Fairfax, Calif.; Trek Drops) placing 5th, 7th, and 10th respectively.
“While we always hope for a podium finish, it’s great to see three Americans place in the top 10,” said Jack Seehafer, Women’s Road Performance Director at USA Cycling, “Leah’s performance today was extremely impressive and is a great indication of what the next few years will hold for her. We’re really looking forward to continuing to watch her develop as an athlete.”
Along with the Elite Women, Team USA had other top ten finishes from Brandon McNulty who came in 7th in the U23 Men’s Race and Michael Garrison who placed 10th in the Juniors Race. Coryn Rivera also earned a bronze medal in the Team Time Trial with her trade team, Team Sunweb.
Racing continues tomorrow with the Elite Men’s Time Trial where Americans Joey Rosskopf (Decatur, Ga.; BMC Racing Team) and Tejay Van Garderen (Aspen, Colo.; BMC Racing Team) will compete for the Rainbow Jersey, followed by the road races concluding on Saturday.
