Jennifer Valente takes Silver in the Points Race

March 4, 2018, Apeldoorn, Netherlands- In her final event of the 2018 UCI World Championships, Jennifer Valente (Sho-Air TWENTY20; San Diego, Calif.) received the silver medal in the Points Race with 43 total points, 13 points ahead of the third place finisher.

When asked about her race, Valente said, “I had a plan and I tried to keep that in mind especially when I was starting to get in the box. I wanted to make sure to have no missed opportunities. In the points race I have to stay present and break the race up into sections and react regardless of how I'll be feeling 20 laps later. It worked out.”

Gary Sutton, Head Coach of Endurance Track for USA Cycling was impressed with her performance throughout the entire event, “She was switched on and put herself into the bike race right from the start. It was an outstanding performance for her against the very best in the world. I'm very proud of her performance this week in managing all the events and it will really help her for the future,” he said.

Valente also won a gold medal earlier in the week for the Team Pursuit alongside her teammates Kelly Catlin (Arden Hills, Minn.), Chloe Dygert-Owen (Port Orchard, Wash.), and Kim Geist (Allentown, Penn.) as well as a 5th place finish in the Omnium.
